Fire prevention

A fire at a Path N.Y. sound stage on 10 December 1929 resulted in the deaths of ten people. MPPDA concern that deaths will be attributed to irresponsible practices, keeping inflammable nitrate film on premises. Correspondence establishes that no film was actually burnt, but some Path officials are charged with manslaughter after "an unsuccessful attempt to surreptitiously remove from the ruins, under cover of night, a large amount of nitro-cellulose film." Efforts are made to keep the fire out of other newsreels. Other documents include a report on the history of safety conservation work in the motion picture industry
