Long Description:

UNIVERSAL. 1928. memo from Herron, 1928, Concerning "Grease Paint": This may or may not cause objection from the Austrians. They are very sensitive people and one never knows what they are going to object to. One must take into consideration the fact that today Europe is frightfully anti-American as far as films are concerned and they are looking for every loop hole to attack us that they possibly can. In Austria we are under a contingent system already. If possible, I would suggest that this locale be switched to Russia where there is not a chance of a protest. I realize, of course, that the Viennese waltz and the atmosphere may make this impossible, but it is better to lean backwards in a proposition of this sort than to go ahead and take a chance on stirring up bad publicity.
