The American Association for the Advancement of Atheism complains about the treatment of atheists in the movies, giving Hays the opportunity to publish heartfelt replies in the press, and to be deluged with the warm appreciation of organizations such as the Anti-Saloon League of Texas (headed by Atticus Webb).

Long Description:

The Godless Girl. The MPPDA obviously used this correspondence with the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism for propaganda purposes, sending it round the religious press. His reply has one of his better sentences, which doubtless occurs elsewhere in his publications: "I can think of few more calamitous happenings than to take from the world the motion picture which has clothed the empty existence of far-off hamlets with joy and lifted listless folk till they walk the peaks of romance and adventure like their own Main St."
