"CENSORSHIP A MENACE TO DEMOCRACY" -- WALSH"... So long as there are general laws (it they are not ample or broad enough they should be made so) making it unlawful to present indecent and improper forms of entertainment there ought to be no necessity for censorship of the amusement of the people. I am therefore opposed to all forms of censorship, whether of the press, the pulpit or pictures.Since the appointment of former Postmaster-General Will H. Hays as director of the movies there has been a steady development for good in picture production. I am satisfied that in his hands the movement for better pictures will steadily continue."
