Hays explains his controversial statement on the Arbuckle case, which advocated Christian charity rather than outright condemnation, and proposes Arbuckle be permitted to work in industry. The statement was "in no sense a reinstatement of Arbuckle and it does not concern the releasing of the films already made." [Hays' actions concerning Arbuckle in April have already rendered him unable to work since then.]

"At that time [last Sunday night, when he released the original statement on this] I declared and do now assert and have always and shall always insist "Any evil which is in motion pictures can be removed, and all the good retained, at the place where the pictures are made at the time they are made and by the men who make them, and no alibi is possible."'
