Director, Studio Relations, Association of Motion Picture Producers, 1932-1934. Previously a schoolteacher and school principal, then worked in the New York State Education Department, from 1917. In 1927 Wingate became the Director of the Motion Picture Division of the New York State Education Department, responsible for motion picture censorship in New York State. In October 1932, following Jason Joy’s resignation from the SRC, Wingate became its Director. After Joseph Breen’s appointment as Director of the Production Code Administration, Wingate continued to work in the MPPDA, moving back to New York to manage the title department and Eastern Production Code Administration.
