Production Manager Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Entered motion picture industry as a secretary in 1918, then became private secretary to Carl Laemmle, Sr. In 1920, Thalberg then became general manager and director for Universal, and then joined Louis B. Mayer productions as production head in 1923. When Mayer and Metro-Goldwyn affiliated he was named vice-president and supervisor of production for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. IN 1927 he married MGM star Norma Shearer. He was chairman of the AMPP committee that wrote the Production Code in early 1930. he suffered a heart attack in December 1932, and lost much of his authority at MGM during his recuperation.
